Tewkesbury

White Goods Recycling Centre

Opened in April 2003, in partnership with Tewkesbury Borough Council, Gloucestershire County Council and funding from the European Social Fund, this unit has added a new dimension to our organisation.

We have been constantly aware of the need to supply a greater number of electrical appliances, such as washing machines and cookers to meet an ever-increasing demand on our service. This unit has provided us with such an opportunity. Where as previously, we have only been able to test one item at a time, we can now safely test up to 4 cookers and 4 washing machines on a ‘rolling’ basis. When testing cookers in the past this has taken place using a 13amp socket, testing each individual ring independently.

This new opportunity also gave the Project the ability to extend the range of training it offers in a subject and location not currently available to this rural part of Gloucestershire. Included in the training is not only basic white goods repairs, but Portable Appliance Testing and basic electrical installation. This offers trainees, staff and volunteers to add to their skills, whilst providing an improved service to the community.

From this base, we are also able to offer to groups the opportunity to access a quality Portable Appliance Testing service, enabling them to know that the items in use meet current standards. This would normally be a requirement within any insurance terms and conditions.
